What is AVI

Mission

AVI is a non-profit cultural organisation, passionately dedicated to promoting and developing video and media archives in Italy to meet the needs of an increasingly varied, well-informed public.

Its mission is not limited simply to promoting video and media archives – which house an undeniably valuable audiovisual heritage – but also extends to creating targeted services that take into account the specific needs of individual users and communities.

In its role as a representative, the AVI is an authoritative voice in any cultural, scientific, technical, legal and legislative context. It defends the interests of video and media archives to safeguard their management, acts as a spokesperson for their problems and potential, and seeks solutions and strategies to cater to the challenges of the modern age.

AVI also provides valuable support to its members, offering them scientific and technical resources to help with professional development, a crucial factor in a constantly changing context. The Association also actively contributes to cultural policy choices, encouraging practices that promote the expansion and quality of the services offered.

Another distinctive feature of the AVI is its commitment to comply with and disseminate the ethical principles appropriate to the management of video and media archives, in order to ensure that they are managed with transparency, competence and responsibility. The Association also encourages dialogue and collaboration between the various powers in the social, cultural, political, trade-union, financial and business contexts. Constructive dialogue enriches the entire sector, and safeguards the jobs of those who work in cultural roles.

Finally, AVI cultivates relations with other European and international organisations, working with associations and bodies in Europe and all over the world to create a network fostering interaction and mutual growth. In this way the association not only promotes excellence in Italian video and media libraries, but also acts as a point of reference for best practice at an international level.
